Charges Laid After House Party
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 5:26 pm
Five young men from Brussels are facing charges after an 'end of summer' party got out of hand.
Police came across the large party on Turnberry Street in Brussels Sunday night. The crowd of young partygoes was estimated at well over 100, and spilled out onto the street.
Several beer bottles were thrown at the OPP cruisers, so police pulled back to a safe distance and set up RIDE programs. They spent several hours at the scene to ensure that everyone got a sober ride home, or remained at the property.
The house was rented by five young males, ranging in age from 18 to 19. They were later advised that they were being charged with Mischief.

Vision 2013 Final Outline Ready
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 10:30 am
The Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance is ready to submit a final outline of its Vision 2013 project to the Southwest Local Health Integration Network.
CEO Andrew Williams says the LHIN has been encouraging consolidation and integration of service delivery, and he expects the LHIN will support the direction of the Alliance.
Williams admits some of their proposed changes, like the shift in ER scheduling, are sensitive and they still have some work to do in explaining the reasoning behind those changes.
But he says all hospitals have to find ways of using limited resources as effectively as possible, to maintain and improve levels of service.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 5:50 am
Five members of the Western Wardens Association have agreed to form a smaller group to deal with the issue of wind farms.
Huron County warden Bert Dykstra says Huron, Grey, Bruce, Wellington and Dufferin are all dealing with the same issues.
He says they might have more clout with developers and the province if they work together to deal with wind farms.
Dykstra says they discussed the possibility of working together at the recent AMO Conference in Windsor and decided a collaborative effort might be most effective.

Alliance Hospital Summer Staffing Worked
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 5:50 am
Staffing at the four hospitals in the Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance was better this summer than it has been for several years.
Chief Nurse Executive Donnalene Tuer-Hodes says they usually have to scramble to cover shifts at at least one hospital through the summer but this year they were able to give everyone the holidays they were looking for and no shifts were missed.
Tuer-Hodes says over the summer they hired fifteen BScN students and many of them want to come back next year.
Tuer-Hodes credits the working environment within the Alliance hospitals as one of the reasons for so many students wanting to come back.

Perth County Severance Debate Closer to Ending
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 5:50 am
The end could finally be in sight for the Surplus Farmhouse Severance debate in Perth County.
The Ontario Municipal Board will consider the positions of both sides during a hearing that begins on Wednesday at the Perth County Courthouse in Stratford.
Perth South and West Perth are appealing County Council's decision to deny a proposed official plan amendment.
It would have allowed severances in the two municipalities if the applications met certain conditions.
Perth South Reeve Ron McKay says they do not want the roads to be empty of houses like it is out west.
McKay says it is important to save as many as possible to maintain the rural population so schools, churches and communities are not further jeopardized.
The Ontario Municipal Board has set aside three days, if necessary, to consider all the arguments regarding Perth County's Surplus Farmhouse Severance issue.
