Changes to North Perth Garbage Pickup Tuesday, July 27, 2010 12:00 pm
North Perth residents will soon have an opportunity to learn more about planned changes to the collection of waste and recyclables.
Council has decided to delay the implementation of the automated co-collection system and host a few public meetings in the meantime.
Councillor Meredith Schneider says several residents have expressed concerns about the size of the new wheeled recycling bins, pick-up schedule, and the costs associated with the new service.
The public meetings will be held in September and a representative from Bluewater Recycling will be there to answer any questions.
Schneider adds the company is moving to "co-collection" for waste and recyclables in every community it serves so the changes will be implemented in North Perth but likely not until early April 2011.

It will also connect to the north route to Owen Sound or go south to London and passengers will be able to connect with Grey Hound bus service in either Stratford or London. The first bus arrives in Goderich this Friday.

A complete schedule can be found on the web site aboutown.ca or by calling 1-888-666-5466. The depot in Goderich is at Coffee Culture, on the Square at Montreal Street.
World Tractor Parade Record To Tumble? Tuesday, July 27, 2010 8:31 am
When a small group of Dresdent area residents started thinking about holding a tractor parade as a fund-raiser for cancer research they want to beat the previous world record of 601. When they held the parade yesterday they more than doubled it, and so far they have collected more than a hundred thousand dollars. Organizer Ken Richards says for many it was personal. He says it was also a sign of just how much farmers can accomplish working together. (Richards On Tractor Parade)
Richards himself drove the record-breaker, tractor number 602. The final numbers are still being verified , but are just over 12-hundred and 30. The information will now be sent to the Guinness Record organization for consideration as an official world record.

CNSC Says Bruce Plan Will be Safe Tuesday, July 27, 2010 5:00 am
A high ranking official with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission says a plan by Bruce Power will only be approved if it's safe.
Bruce Power plans to move 16, 100 tonne radioactive steam generators from the Bruce Power site to Owen Sound harbour. From there they'll be shipped to Sweden.
The utility needs approval from the C-N-S-C.
Ramzi Jammal is its chief regulatory officer. In a presentation to Owen Sound council, he says Bruce Power will not get the necessary approval until the commission is satisfied the plan is absolutely safe.
Jammal says the commission has yet to make a decision on Bruce Power's plan because their application is not yet complete.
Bruce Power is holding a public information meeting today to explain the plan in further detail.
That's at the headquarters of the Grey Bruce Health Unit from 5 to 7 P.M.
Stolen Boat Hits Sailboat Sleeper Tuesday, July 27, 2010 5:00 am
A boater at the Georgian Yacht Club in Owen Sound didn't get much sleep overnight.
Shortly after 1:00 this morning, city police got a call from a man who reported that his sailboat was rammed while he was sleeping on board. The sailor said his boat was hit by a larger vessel, and when he investigated, he saw a young man and woman fleeing from the larger vessel after letting it go adrift.
The man and a city police officer managed to board the drifting vessel, disable the motor, and with the help of a rope thrown to an officer on shore, were able to guide the craft into a nearby slip. Police say the larger vessel had been stolen, and was valued at over 100 thousand dollars.
The damage to stolen craft is not know, but the sailboat did receive significant damage to the front bow and the rear rudder.
